Cross-Linked Solid Polymer-Based Catholyte for Solid-State Lithium-Sulfur Batteries

All-solid-state lithium-sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) are a promising next-generation battery technology. They exhibit high energy density, while mitigating intrinsic problems such as polysulfide shuttling and lithium dendrite growth that common to liquid electrolyte-based batteries. Among the various types of solid electrolytes, polymer electrolytes (SPE) attractive due their superior flexibility safety. In this work, cross-linkable polymers composed pentaerythritol tetraacrylate (PETEA) tri(ethylene glycol) divinyl ether (PEG), incorporated into sulfur–carbon composite cathodes serve dual function both binder electrolyte, so-called catholyte. The influence key parameters, including ratio, catholyte content, ionic conductivity electrolyte within cathode on electrochemical performance, was investigated. Notably, sulfur containing 30 wt% PETEA-PEG copolymer achieved initial discharge capacity 1236 mAh gS−1 at C-rate 0.1 80 °C.
